WHAT IS AQUAMATS® PROCESS?
|
|
AquaMats® Process is a highly effective wastewater treatment process that features three integrated and complementary system components for the facultative lagoon environment. AquaMats® Process is 100% natural and uses no chemicals at all.
The AquaMats® Process process integrates three technologies:
- AquaMats® - AquaMats® Technology provides the latest in surface area biotechnology to reduce Ammonia, BOD5, TSS and Phosphorus for wastewater treatment with AquaMats® for Biofiltration.
- Fine Bubble Bottom Laid Aeration - Natures own system and the aerated facultative lagoon process by Air Diffusion Systems have many similarities. Throughout our natural rivers, most waste is treated biologically; this is also true with fine bubble aeration technology from Air Diffusion Systems.
- Supplemental Microbial Treatments - Bacta-Pur®’s techniques of physiological engineering of microorganisms to optimize process control have been automated to save operator time and money. The Bacta-Pur® BACTIVATORs are automatic systems, which continuously precondition and deliver Bacta-Pur® biotechnologies.
All of these integrated technologies are affordable to buy lease and operate. They are completely holistic in nature and can be easily retrofitted for any existing lagoon or treatment pond.

HOW DOES AQUAMATS® PROCESS WORK?
|
|
AquaMats® Process combines engineered surface area (“AquaMats®”), ADS’s diffusion aeration products, and bioaugmentation (“Bacta-Pur®”) technologies to form a very stable, and low-maintenance integrated system for natural microbial treatment of municipal or industrial wastewater. Operational costs are typically very low. Because of the efficiency of AquaMats® Process, sludge handling is not necessary for up to 10 years or longer.
- AquaMats® Process is typically a 3 stage biological treatment process that commonly involves staged treatment cells but may be accomplished in one hydraulically segmented lagoon.
- Primary Treatment is with ADS aeration equipment and BactaPur® XLG microbes. Up to 70% of the treatment of BOD/COD and TSS is in the primary treatment.
- Secondary Treatment is with ADS aeration equipment, BactaPur XLG and AquaMats® for Biofiltration for further reduction of BOD/COD, TSS and Ammonia.
- Tertiary Treatment with ADS aeration equipment, BactaPur N-3000 and AquaMats® for Biofiltration to complete required nutrient/metals removal and water clarification with high residual DO values.
- AquaMats® Process is capable of year-round treatment for discharge limits in the single digits, no offensive odors and very low sludge accumulation.
- AquaMats® for Biofiltration effectively replace the use of sand, rock or wetland filtration functions.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AQUAMATS® PROCESS?
|
- Systems that are not meeting discharge regulations (generally either hydraulically or organically overloaded)
- Lagoon systems that are emitting excessive odors
- Lagoons with excessive sludge buildup
- Systems that are planning for more stringent discharge regulations
- Communities ranging to populations of 25,000 that are experiencing high population growth
